The article deals with the basic directions of the environmental policy of Russia in modern conditions, shows the trends of interaction between nature and economy, as well as mechanisms of harmonization of environmental, economic and social interests of society. The prospects for the solution of social and economic problems, providing ecologically oriented economic growth in Russia with an example of the state program of the protection of Lake Baikal are shown
